Medicalization is when something that used to be seen as a normal part of life or part of being human is instead seen as a medical problem. For example, a few hundred years ago, having headaches or any other kind of pain was just life - and people had to cope with it without any drugs or doctor’s help. Now, having headaches or any kind of pain is seen as a medical problem; doctors can give you medicine to help the pain. So, medicalization is when something that wasn’t a medical issue before becomes one.
