Medieval literature

Medieval literature is the written works from the time period known as the Middle Ages. This time period lasted from the fall of the Roman Empire in 476AD to the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th or 15th century. During this time, people wrote about a variety of topics, like love, religion, war, and fantasy. People wrote books, plays, and poetry to express their ideas and opinions, as well as to entertain others. Some of the most well-known medieval authors are Geoffrey Chaucer, Dante Alighieri, and William Shakespeare. These writers wrote their stories and plays in languages like Latin, French, and English. When you read or watch stories about brave knights, wise kings, queens, and dragons, you are usually seeing a part of medieval literature!
