ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Megavirus

Okay kiddo, so you know how a tiny germ can make you sick? Well, there's something called a "virus" that's even smaller than a germ and can also make you sick.

A "megavirus" is a really big virus, compared to other viruses. It's called "mega" because it's much larger than the usual viruses that we know about.

Just like other viruses, megaviruses can infect living things like animals or plants and make them sick. But scientists have found that megaviruses can infect other viruses! That's pretty cool, huh?

Megaviruses have lots of different parts, including a big round shell, some spikes sticking out, and even its own genetic material inside. All these parts help the megavirus to stick to cells and sneak inside them to start causing trouble.

But don't worry too much, because scientists are studying megaviruses to figure out more about them and maybe even find ways to fight them off. So for now, it's important to stay healthy by washing your hands often and eating your fruits and vegetables to help keep your immune system strong!
