Meiji Restoration

Meiji Restoration is a time in Japanese history where Japan stopped having a shogun ruler and having an emperor as the leader again. It happened between 1868 and 1912. This time was important in Japan's history because it marked the beginning of modernization. It meant that Japan was open to learning about new technologies and ideas from other countries, making it a more powerful force in the world. It also meant that Japan's economy and culture flourished, making it a world leader. Japan was able to become a powerful country in part because of the Meiji Restoration.
