ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Melmastia

So, you know how people have different body parts that make them look different from each other? Well, some people have something called "breasts." Women usually have bigger ones than men, and they use them to feed babies when they become mommies.

Now, sometimes, during puberty, the breasts might grow unevenly. This means that one breast might become bigger or develop faster than the other one. This is called "asymmetry." Usually, this is normal and not a problem.

But sometimes, one breast can grow really big and become much larger than the other one. This is called "macromastia." It can happen to both women and men, but it's more common in women. It might not cause any problems, but sometimes it can be really uncomfortable or even painful. It can also make it difficult for people to find clothes that fit properly.

So, when someone has this problem with one breast being much larger than the other, they might get something called "breast reduction surgery." This is also called "melmastia." During the surgery, a doctor will remove some of the extra tissue from the bigger breast and reshape it so it looks more like the smaller one. This can help the person feel more comfortable and confident, and it can also help them find clothes that fit properly.
