Merit (Buddhism)

Merit, in Buddhism, is when you do a good deed that helps someone else. Merit is something like a good karma "points" system. Basically, when you do something good for someone, like give to charity, help someone in need, or practice mindfulness, you gain "merit points". These points are believed to be stored in your heart and can act as a kind of "karma bank" that can help you in the future. When you have a lot of merit points, it is believed that you can use them to get good things in your life, such as good luck and blessings. Doing good deeds and collecting merit points can help you have a good life now and also in the next life.
