Meromictic lake

A meromictic lake is a type of lake where the water in the top layer does not mix with the water in the bottom layer. Just like when you have a glass of water with ice cubes in it, the ice cubes stay at the top and the water stays at the bottom because they are different. The same thing happens in a meromictic lake because the water at the top is different from the water at the bottom.

The water at the top of the lake has a lot of oxygen and is always moving around because of the wind and the sun. This makes it easy for animals and plants to live in this part of the lake. However, at the bottom of the lake, it is very different. The water here has very little oxygen and is very salty or muddy. This makes it very hard for animals and plants to live in this part of the lake.

Because the water at the top and bottom of the lake is so different, they do not mix. This means that the bottom of the lake can sometimes stay the same for years or even centuries! This is why meromictic lakes are very interesting for scientists to study. They can learn a lot about the different types of creatures and plants that live in the two different layers of the lake, and how they survive without being able to mix with each other.
