Merton Rule

Okay, so you know how when you want to do something, like play with your toys, you need to follow some rules to make sure you do it safely and properly? Well, the Merton Rule is kind of like that, but for buildings.

When people want to build a new building, they need to follow some rules to make sure the building is safe and healthy for the people who will live or work in it. The Merton Rule is one of those rules.

The Merton Rule was named after a place called Merton in London, where the rule was first used. The rule says that when people build a new building, they need to make sure that a certain percentage of the energy that the building needs comes from renewable sources. Renewable sources are things like wind, water, and the sun - sources that will never run out (unlike things like oil or gas).

The reason for this rule is that buildings use a lot of energy, and if all of that energy comes from sources like oil or gas, it can be bad for the environment. But if some of the energy comes from renewable sources, that is better for the environment.

So the Merton Rule is just a rule that says buildings need to use some renewable energy when they are built. That way, the environment will be healthier, and the people who live and work in the buildings will be happier and safer.
