Imagine you're at the beach and you want to send a message to someone far, far away. But you don't know their phone number or their address so you can't call them or send them a letter. Instead, you decide to write your message on a piece of paper and put it inside a bottle. Then you throw the bottle into the water and let it float away.
That's called a message in a bottle! Your message is in the bottle, safe from the water. Eventually, the bottle will drift away and end up somewhere else, maybe miles and miles away.
Someone else might find the bottle on the beach and see your message inside. They'll know that you sent it and they might even be able to write back to you somehow. It's a fun way to send messages, even if you don't know who will get it or when they will find it.
