ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Meta-philosophy

Meta-philosophy is like thinking about thinking. It's like asking yourself questions about questions. You know when you ask why something is the way it is? Well, meta-philosophy is about asking why we ask those kinds of questions in the first place.

Let's take an example. You know how you ask why we have to go to school? That's a question about the purpose of school. Meta-philosophy is like asking why we even care about the purpose of school. It's about asking what makes that question important and relevant.

Another example: You might ask if something is true or not. That's a question about the truth. But meta-philosophy is about asking what we mean by "truth" and why we think it's important to know.

So, meta-philosophy is like thinking about the big picture of why we ask philosophical questions, like what we mean when we use certain words, why we find some questions important, and how we can try to find answers to those questions.
