Method of matched asymptotic expansions

Method of matched asymptotic expansions is a way of finding approximate solutions to mathematical equations. It lets us write a complex equation in two parts, an "outer region" and an "inner region". The two parts are matched together using certain rules so that the whole equation makes sense. This technique is often used when it's easy to find solutions in simpler, outer regions, but difficult to do so in more complicated, inner regions.
