Mexican jumping bean

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of a Mexican jumping bean? No? Well, it's a very interesting thing! So, the Mexican jumping bean isn't actually a bean, it's a seed. It comes from a tree called the "sebastiana pavoniana" which is found in Mexico.

Now, these particular seeds are special because they have tiny little insects inside them. These insects are called "bean weevils" and they eat the inside of the seed. As they chew, they create holes which cause the seed to move around.

When you hold the bean in your hand, the warmth of your hand makes the bean weevil become more active, and the little insect moves around inside the seed. As it moves, it makes the seed jump and sometimes even bounce!

So, that's why it's called a "jumping bean". It's not actually jumping by itself, but because there's a little insect inside it. Isn't that cool? And that's why people love to play with them and watch them jump around in their hands. But, just remember to be gentle with them because they are living creatures, and they need to be treated with care.
