Microorganisms live all around us, even inside our bodies! Microbiological culture means scientists are trying to grow some of these microorganisms in a lab so they can study them. To do this, they put food like sugar and proteins into special dishes called Petri dishes. They cover the food with a thin film of special gel that the microorganisms can use to grow. They also add chemicals to the food that make it easier to see where the microorganisms are growing. Then the scientists put the dishes in a special incubator that has the right temperature, light, and humidity for the microorganisms to grow. After a few days, the microorganisms will grow so the scientists can see them and study them better.
