A blood culture test is a check to find out if you have an infection in your blood. A small amount of blood is taken from your arm with a needle and sent to a lab. In the lab, the sample is put into a special liquid in a tiny container called a culture dish. After a few days, scientists at the lab will look at the culture dish to see if any germs grew in the blood. If something grows, it means there is an infection in your blood.
