A microwave cavity is a metal box that holds microwaves. Microwaves are like radio waves, but they vibrate at a much higher frequency than radio waves. When microwaves enter the metal box, they bounce around inside the walls until they reach the other side. This means that microwaves can travel through the metal box and heat the food inside.
