ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Miss Manners

Miss Manners is someone who teaches people good manners. Manners are a set of rules that help us be kind, polite and respectful to others. For example, saying "please" and "thank you" when asking for or receiving something, holding the door open for someone who is behind you, or saying "excuse me" when you need to walk past someone.

Miss Manners believes that showing good manners is important because it helps us build better relationships with other people. If we are rude or disrespectful, people will not want to be around us or help us. But if we are polite and respectful, people are more likely to want to be our friends and help us out if we need it.

Sometimes, people might not know what good manners are, maybe because they were not taught or they forgot. That is why Miss Manners writes books, columns and gives speeches, to teach people how to use their manners.

So, think about Miss Manners as a very nice teacher who helps us remember to be polite and respectful to others.
