Mitama

Hello little one! Do you know what mitama means? It is a very special word in Japanese culture. A mitama is a spiritual energy or essence that is believed to exist in all living things and helps to bring balance to the world. Imagine it like a little spark of light or energy.

People in Japan believe that when someone dies, their mitama leaves the body and goes to a special place called the yomi no kuni or 'land of the dead.' This special place is believed to be ruled by a goddess called Izanami, who helps to guide the mitama on its journey.

But that's not all! In Shinto, a Japanese religion, mitama can also refer to the spirits of ancestors or kami (gods/goddesses) who protect and guide the living. It's believed that these mitama can be invited to visit a special shrine or altar in someone's home, where they can receive offerings and prayers.

So you see, mitama are very important and special in Japan. They represent the spirit and energy of all living things, both past and present, and are believed to play an important role in keeping the world in balance.
