ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Miyako Inoue (linguistic anthropologist)

Miyako Inoue is a linguistic anthropologist, which means she studies how people use language (words and sentences) to understand the way they think and organize their societies. She researches the different ways that words are used in different languages and cultures, so she can learn how cultures around the world have different ways of talking, and how that affects what they think and do. She is especially interested in how language can help us understand cultural identity, power, and inequality. She tries to figure out how language shapes what people consider important in their lives, and how it can influence their attitudes and behaviors. She wants to understand how language can be used to make the world a better place.
