Mode coupling

Mode coupling is a type of force that impacts how energy moves around. When different kinds of energy, like different kinds of sound, come together, they interact with each other, and this interaction is called mode coupling. Mode coupling makes it so that the energy moving around isn't moving in just one direction, but instead is bouncing off of different areas and might even be changing direction as it goes. This means that energy is able to move around in a more complicated pattern, instead of just going in a straight line.
