ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) is like playing pretend government where kids act out how countries interact with each other.

Just like in real life, every country has a representative (or delegate) at the United Nations. In MUN, students are assigned to represent a specific country and they must learn all about that country's government, culture, and interests.

During the MUN conference, students gather together to debate and discuss issues affecting the world. They must use their knowledge of their country, as well as research they've done ahead of time, to argue their country's perspective and make decisions about what the United Nations as a group should do.

This includes discussing topics such as poverty, climate change, and international conflict. Each delegate can speak, share their country's perspective and propose solutions that make sense for their nations' interests.

Through MUN, students learn how to speak in public, work with other students, debate effectively, and develop a deeper understanding of different countries and their cultures. It can be lots of fun and helps students understand how governments work and interact with each other!
