ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Model rocket

A model rocket is like a toy that looks like a tiny spaceship. It has a rocket engine and is launched into the sky. To make it fly, you need to first build the rocket using a kit, which has all the parts you need. There are different kinds of rockets that you can build, and each one has different features, like how high it can go or how much weight it can carry.

Once you have built your rocket, you need to fuel it with a special kind of fuel called a rocket engine. This is like the stuff that makes fireworks go up in the air. Once you light the rocket engine, it blasts out hot gas that shoots the rocket up into the sky.

You can launch your rocket from a special launch pad that helps to keep it steady so it doesn't tip over. When you're ready to launch it, you press a button that starts a countdown, just like in the movies. Then you press the button again and the rocket engine ignites, creating a huge whooshing sound as it flies off into the sky.

As the rocket goes higher and higher, it starts to slow down because of the air resistance, and eventually it will reach its highest point and start falling back down to the ground. This is when a parachute or other kind of recovery mechanism kicks in to help it float back down to earth safely.

Model rockets can be a lot of fun to build and launch, and they can teach you a lot about science and engineering too!
