ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Modified Newtonian dynamics

Modified Newtonian Dynamics or MOND is an idea that says that our current understanding of gravity might be wrong. Gravity is the force that pulls objects towards each other, like how the Earth pulls us down. According to Newton's laws, this force should get weaker as distance between two objects gets larger.

However, MOND suggests that as distances increase, the force of gravity doesn't get weaker as quickly as we'd expect it to. Instead, the force of gravity might stay stronger for longer distances than we previously thought. This would mean that we might not need to include dark matter, a mysterious material that we can't see but scientists think could fill up the universe and account for the missing gravity.

MOND was proposed by Mordehai Milgrom in the 1980s, and it is still a topic of debate among scientists. Some say that this idea fits better with the observations we have, while others say it doesn't make sense. There is still a lot of research to be done to figure out if MOND is a better explanation for gravity than our current understanding.
