Moruroa

Moruroa is a place far away from where you live, in a big ocean called the Pacific Ocean. It's a small island that belongs to a country called French Polynesia. Many years ago, in the 1960s, the French government used it to test big bombs.

A bomb is something that explodes and makes a very loud noise. The French wanted to see how big these bombs could be and how much destruction they caused.

They dropped many bombs in Moruroa, and it was not good for the environment and the animals that live there. Everyone was worried that the bombs from Moruroa could harm people who live in other countries, so many countries asked France to stop testing bombs there, and they finally did in 1996.

Today, the French government is working to make sure the island is safe for people and animals.
