ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Motion Picture Association of America film rating system

The Motion Picture Association of America Rating System is a system used to classify movies based on their content so parents can decide if it's appropriate for their kids to watch.

There are five different ratings: G, which means it's okay for all ages; PG, which means some content may be unsuitable for young kids; PG-13, which means some material may not be suitable for children under 13; R, which means no one under 17 should watch it without a parent or guardian present; and NC-17, which means that it's strictly for adults only.

The ratings are decided by a group of people who watch the movie and look for things like language, violence, and sexual content. They then give the movie a rating based on how much of that content is there.

It's important to follow the movie rating system because movies can contain things like violence, scary scenes, or mature themes that might not be suitable for young children. By checking the movie rating and reading the summary, parents can make an informed decision about whether or not it's appropriate for their family to watch.
