ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Motor babbling

Okay kiddo, do you remember when you were a baby and you started making sounds like 'ga-ga' or 'da-da' even though you didn't really know what they meant? That was called babbling! It was your way of trying to talk and learn how to use your mouth and voice.

Well, just like babies babble to learn how to talk, motor babbling is when babies move their arms and legs around to learn how to use their bodies. It's like practicing without really knowing what they're doing.

When babies are very little, their brain is still figuring out how to control their movements. So they might wave their arms around or kick their legs just because it feels good or they're curious. This helps them learn what their body can do and how they can use it.

As they get older, babies start to intentionally move in certain ways to reach for things, crawl, or walk. But in the beginning, motor babbling is an important step in their development.
