ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Munroe effect

Okay, kiddo, do you like explosions? Well, one thing that can happen when things blow up is something called the Munroe Effect. This happens when a focused shock wave hits something, like a piece of metal.

Now, imagine a piece of metal that looks kind of like a cupcake liner, with a pointy part in the middle. When there's an explosion nearby, the shock wave from the explosion hits the pointy part of the metal really hard and really fast.

This causes the metal to collapse in on itself, creating a really intense amount of pressure. All of that pressure has to go somewhere, and it ends up shooting out of the flat part of the metal, like a really fast, hot bullet.

This can be dangerous, so it's important to be careful around explosions and any kind of metal that could experience the Munroe Effect. But it's also kind of cool to learn about how things work, right?
