ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Music at sporting events

Have you ever been to a big sports game with lots of people cheering and excitement in the air? Well, music plays a big part in making that happen!

Before the game even starts, music helps create a fun and exciting atmosphere. You may hear songs played over the loudspeakers that you know and love, like “We Will Rock You” or “Eye of the Tiger.” These songs can get you pumped up and ready for the game to start!

During the game, music can help get everyone in the stadium cheering and clapping together. Sometimes, the music will stop and everyone will sing or chant together. These moments are called “chants” and they help everyone feel like they are part of a team.

When a player on your team does something really good, like scoring a goal or hitting a home run, you might hear a special song that plays just for them. This is called a “walk-up song” or an “entrance song.” It’s like their own personal theme song that helps get everyone excited for what they’re about to do.

At the end of the game, win or lose, you might hear another special song that plays to celebrate or commiserate with the team. This helps everyone feel like they’ve been part of something special, win or lose.

So, music at sporting events is like a big party! It helps get everyone excited and cheering together. Plus, it’s always fun to sing and dance along to some of your favorite songs with all your friends and family watching the game!
