ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Musical nationalism

Musical nationalism is like when you feel really proud of your country and want to show it through music. Just like how we have different clothes or food in our countries, each country has its own unique music that represents its culture and people.

For example, imagine you and your friends make up a special dance that you only do when you are with your family. If someone else saw you doing it, they might not understand it because they don’t have the same background or culture as you. That’s the same with musical nationalism.

People all around the world create music that they feel best represents their country. They might use special instruments or rhythms that only exist in their country. By listening to this music or playing it themselves, people can feel a strong connection to their homeland and feel proud of where they come from.
