When people get married or face family disputes, they need some rules to follow. In India, there are many religions, and each religion has its own set of rules for marriages and family issues. One of these religions is called Islam, and their set of rules is called Muslim Personal Law.
Muslim Personal Law includes rules on things like marriage, divorce, inheritance, and property. These rules are based on religious beliefs and teachings from the Quran, the holy book of Islam.
For example, in Islam, a man can marry up to four wives if he can treat them all equally. The Muslim Personal Law also has rules on how a woman can get out of a marriage if it is not working out, and how property and money are distributed after someone dies.
These rules only apply to people who are Muslims, and they are enforced by Muslim religious leaders, known as Qazis. In India, Muslim Personal Law is recognized by the government and is a part of the legal system.
However, there are some people who think that Muslim Personal Law is outdated and discriminates against women, because it allows men to have multiple wives and has different rules for inheritance based on gender. There have been debates and protests about whether to reform or abolish Muslim Personal Law, but for now, it remains a part of the legal system in India for Muslims.
