ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

NAND gate

Okay kiddo, so you know what a door is, right? And it has a knob that you turn to open or close it?

Well, a NAND gate is like a special kind of door knob that only allows someone to go through if both of the keys are turned in the opposite direction.

But instead of keys, this special knob has two switches that can either be turned "on" or "off". If both of the switches are turned "on", then the gate will stay closed and won't let anyone through. But if either one, or both, of the switches are turned "off", then the gate will open and let someone pass through.

This might not make much sense when talking about doors, but in electronics, it's a way of allowing or blocking electric currents from flowing through a circuit. It's a really important building block for making things like computer processors, which make all the cool technology we use every day work!
