ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

NATO phonetic alphabet

The NATO phonetic alphabet is a set of words used to spell out letters when you want to make sure you're saying them correctly. For example, if you spell out the word "banana", you'd say "Bravo Alpha November Alpha November Alpha". Every letter of the alphabet is assigned its own word so that it is easier to understand what letter somebody is trying to say. For example, "B" is "Bravo", "C" is "Charlie". That way, if you're trying to spell out a word with somebody, it'll be easier for them to understand you.
