Naming taboo

Naming taboo is a custom in some cultures where people don't use certain names or words to talk about certain people or things. For example, in some cultures people wouldn't call their mom or dad by their name—they would give them a special nickname instead. This is because people believed that if someone's name was used in the wrong way or heard too often, bad things might happen to them. To keep these bad things from happening, people would choose special names that they wouldn't use too often.
