ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nanoantenna

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen those long sticks that people use to pick fruits from trees because they can't reach them with their hands? Nanoantennas are like these sticks but they are incredibly small and are used to catch and absorb light.

Nanoantennas are made of tiny pieces of metal that are arranged in a specific way, kind of like how you arrange your building blocks to build a castle. When light hits these tiny metal pieces, they start to vibrate and move, just like how your body moves when you dance to music.

The movement of these metal pieces creates a strong electric field around them, kind of like a force field. This electric field can grab light and absorb it, just like how a sponge absorbs water. This absorbed light can then be used for various things, like creating images, powering devices, or even heating up objects.

So, you can think of nanoantennas as tiny sticks that catch light, which can then be used for different things. Pretty cool, isn't it?
