ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Collection of Aerial Photography

Okay kiddo, so imagine a giant camera that can take pictures of the whole country from way up high in the sky. These pictures are called aerial photographs because they are taken from the air.

Now, there are a lot of different people who might want to use these pictures. Farmers might want to see how their crops are doing, city planners might want to see which parts of a city are growing or changing, and scientists might want to study the environment.

But taking these pictures is really expensive, and not everyone can afford to do it. So, the government decided to create a big collection of aerial photographs that anyone can use for free!

That collection is called the National Collection of Aerial Photography. The government pays for planes or drones to take pictures of the whole country periodically, and then they store those pictures in one big database.

This way, anyone who needs to use satellite images can just access this collection instead of paying a lot of money to take their own pictures. And that helps everyone share information and make better decisions. Cool, right?
