National Historic Sites (United States)

National historic sites in the United States are special places that are very important because they are full of history. Imagine if you were playing with your toys and you had a toy that was really old and special. You would want to take good care of it and maybe even show it to your friends so they can see how cool it is, right?

Well, national historic sites are kind of like these special toys. They are places where important events happened a long, long time ago. They might be old buildings like houses or forts, or even whole towns or neighborhoods. People go to visit these places to learn about what happened there and to see things that are old and interesting.

Sometimes national historic sites are even protected by the government so they can't be changed or destroyed. This is because they are so important to our country's history and we want to make sure we remember them forever.

So the next time your parents take you to see a national historic site, remember that it's like looking at a really cool toy that's been around for a long time and has lots of stories to tell.
