ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Wilderness Preservation System

Imagine that you are playing in a big, beautiful forest. You see tall trees, colorful flowers, and lots of animals like birds, squirrels and deer. This is a very special place because it's very natural, meaning people haven't built things like houses or roads in it.

Well, some grown-ups also think these natural places are special and want to keep them safe for all of the plants and animals that call it home. The grown-ups have created something called the National Wilderness Preservation System to help save these natural places.

The system is made up of many natural areas that have been protected by the government so that they can stay wild and untouched by people. It's kind of like a big club for forests, mountains, and deserts with special rules that say people can't do things like cut down some trees or build cabins everywhere.

This means that people can still come and visit these special places, but they have to be careful to not damage anything or change it too much. This way, the natural areas can stay healthy and beautiful for many, many years to come!
