ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Natural fiber

When we talk about natural fiber, we mean the material we can get from plants or animals. You know how your hair is made of something called "keratin"? Well, that's a type of natural fiber too!

Let's talk about plant fibers first. Have you ever seen cotton? That's a natural fiber that we use a lot! The cotton plant grows little fluffy balls on it, and we can take those balls and spin the fibers together to make thread or cloth. We can also get fiber from other plants, like flax (which makes linen) or hemp.

Now let's talk about animal fibers. Have you ever felt really soft wool or cashmere? Those come from animals! Wool comes from sheep (and sometimes goats), and cashmere comes from a certain kind of goat. People also use silk, which comes from silkworms, and leather, which comes from cow or pig skin.

So, natural fiber is like the stuff clothes are made of, but it comes from plants and animals instead of being man-made. Pretty cool, huh?
