ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Negative visualization

So, negative visualization is when you think about bad things that could happen in the future. It sounds scary, but it can actually be helpful!

Let's say you have a big test coming up. You might start to worry about what could happen if you fail it. Negative visualization means that you take some time to think about what your life could be like if you did fail. Maybe you wouldn't get to move on to the next grade, or you might feel really disappointed in yourself.

Now, this might seem like a really sad and scary thing to think about, but it actually helps you. When you imagine these bad things happening, you start to feel grateful for the good things you have right now. You might appreciate your teachers more for helping you, or your friends for studying with you.

Also, thinking about the worst-case scenario helps you plan ahead. If you know what could happen if you fail, then you can work extra hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

So, negative visualization might seem weird, but it can actually help you feel happier and more prepared for the future.
