Hey kiddo, do you know how we sometimes try to change things in the world? We can start a petition, call our elected officials, write letters, or protest peacefully. Well, sometimes we can do all of that but on the internet through something called networked advocacy.
Networked advocacy is when people come together using social media and other online tools to affect change in the world. Just like how we can chat with our friends or share pictures on Instagram, we can also use these tools to create a network of people who care about the same issues and want to make a difference.
Let's say we want to change a rule in our town that says we can't play in the park after dark. We can create a hashtag like #ParkAfterDark and start sharing that on social media. We can also create a webpage or a petition and share it with our friends who can then share it with their own friends. Before we know it, we have hundreds of people who support our cause and want to help make a change.
But it's not just about sharing things online. We can also use these tools to connect with other organizations who care about our cause. They might have more resources or be able to help us get our message out even further.
And the best part is that we can do this all from the comfort of our own home. We can be a part of something big and make a change without ever leaving our house. That's the power of networked advocacy!
