Nevus

Okay, so you know how sometimes you get little spots on your skin or maybe a birthmark that looks different from the rest of your skin? Well, those spots or birthmarks are called nevus (pronounced as nee-vuhs).

Nevus happens when some cells in your skin grow differently than they should. Sometimes it's because of genetics or just something that happens randomly in your body. It's not your fault and it's nothing to worry about though!

Some nevi are flat, some are raised or bumpy, and they usually come in different colors - brown, black, pink, or even white. They can be anywhere on your body, from your head to your toes. See, just like every person is unique, each nevus has its characteristics too.

If you ever notice a new nevus or an old one that looks different (e.g. itchy, bleeding, or growing quickly), it's important to tell your parents or your doctor, so they can make sure everything is okay. The nevus may need special attention or even removal, but most often, it's nothing to worry about!
