ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nigori

Nigori is a type of sake that is a little different from regular sake that you might have tried before. Normally, sake is clear and smooth like water, but nigori is a little bit cloudy and has a creamy texture.

Now, imagine you are pouring yourself a glass of milk. When you first pour it, it's nice and clear like regular sake. But if you shake the carton a little bit, it becomes cloudy and thicker, just like nigori. This is because the milk has tiny bits of milk fat and protein mixed in that create a cloudiness.

Similarly, nigori is made by leaving some rice particles and other elements in the sake after it's been brewed. This gives it that nice creamy texture and a slightly sweet taste. Nigori is usually served cold or on the rocks, and it goes great with spicy or savory foods, like sushi.

So, next time you want to try something a little different from regular sake, give nigori a try!
