ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

No corporate PAC pledge

Okay kiddo, this is a little complicated, but I'll explain it in a simple way. You know how when grown-ups want something, they can use their money to get it? And sometimes they give their money to politicians they like, so the politicians will make laws that the grown-ups want?

Well, sometimes big companies and their bosses have lots and lots of money, so they give some of it to politicians too. That way, the politicians will make laws the companies want, even if they're not good for regular people like you and me.

But some politicians don't want to be influenced by big companies and their money, because they want to do what's best for everyone, not just the rich companies. So they make a promise called a "no corporate PAC pledge."

This pledge means that the politician won't take money from big companies or their political action committees (which are groups that companies use to give money to politicians). They want to show that they will listen to regular people and their needs, and not just rich companies.

So, it's like when you promise your friend that you won't eat the last cookie before he gets a chance to have one, even if you really want it. The politicians are promising not to take big company's money, even if they really want it.
