ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Alright, kiddo! So, have you heard of our body's liver? It is a big organ in our tummy that helps us digest food and get rid of harmful things in our body. But sometimes, when we eat too much junk food or don't exercise enough, the liver can become fatty. It's kind of like when we eat too many sweets and our tummy becomes soft and squishy. When our liver becomes too fatty, it can make us sick and lead to something called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease means that our liver is too fatty, but it's not because of drinking alcohol. Having too much fat in our liver can cause inflammation (ouch!) and make it harder for our liver to do its job of cleaning up our body. If this happens, our liver can become damaged and start to not work very well. That's why it's important to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and move our bodies by playing outside or doing fun activities.

If someone has non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, they might not feel sick at first. But if it gets worse, they might feel tired, have pain in their tummy, or get yellow skin and eyes. So we should make sure to take care of our bodies, so our liver can do its job and keep us healthy!
