ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Non-monetary economy

A non-monetary economy is an economy where goods and services are exchanged without using money. Instead of using money to buy things, people make deals with each other without using money. For example, one person may give another person a basket of vegetables in exchange for some eggs. This is called bartering and was one of the earliest forms of non-monetary exchange. These days, people still use bartering to trade goods and services, but they also use things like community currency or online bartering systems.
