Norman conquest of England

Okay kiddo, do you know what a conquest is?

It’s when one group of people take over another group’s land and become the new rulers.

So a long, long time ago in the year 1066, there was a group of people called the Normans. They lived in a place called Normandy which is in France.

These Normans wanted to be the rulers of England. At the time, there was a guy named King Harold who was already ruling England.

One day, the Normans sent a man named William the Conqueror (how cool is that name?) to fight King Harold and take over England.

Their armies battled and, even though Harold and his people put up a good fight, the Normans ended up winning in the end.

So, the Normans took over England and William became the new king.

But that’s not all, kiddo. This conquest led to some big changes.

Since the Normans spoke a different language than the English, they started speaking a mix of the two languages which is now known as Middle English.

And the Normans brought new ideas and ways of doing things with them, like stone castles and fancy clothes.

So, in a nutshell, that’s the Norman Conquest of England. It was when the Normans took over England and brought new things with them. Pretty neat, huh?
