Northern Cheyenne Exodus

Okay kiddo, let me explain the northern Cheyenne exodus to you in a way that is easy to understand.

A long time ago, in the late 1800s, the Cheyenne people lived in a place called Montana. They had been there for a very long time and it was their home. But some people who were in charge of the government at the time did not like the Cheyenne, and they wanted them to leave their home and go live somewhere else.

The Cheyenne did not want to leave their home, but the government made them sign a treaty saying they would move to a place called the Indian Territory, which is now Oklahoma. The Cheyenne did not like this idea, but they didn't have much of a choice. So, they started to prepare for the journey.

The journey was very long and hard. They had to walk for many miles, and they didn't have much food or water. They had to cross rivers and mountains, and they had to deal with very bad weather. Many Cheyenne people got sick or died on the journey.

When they finally got to the Indian Territory, things were not much better. The land was not good for farming, and the Cheyenne could not hunt the way they used to. They were also surrounded by people who did not like them and did not want them there.

This made the Cheyenne very unhappy. They missed their old home and they missed their way of life. So, some of the Cheyenne decided to leave the Indian Territory and go back to Montana. This journey was even harder than the first one because now they were running away from the government, who did not want them to leave.

But eventually, after many more days of walking and many more hardships, the Cheyenne finally made it back to Montana. They were very happy to be back home, but the journey had taken a toll on them. Many of them were very sick and weak, and they struggled to live the way they used to.

So, that is the story of the northern Cheyenne exodus. It was a very sad and difficult time for the Cheyenne people, but they never gave up their strong spirit and their love for their home.
