Norwegian dialects

Okay, so you know how people talk differently depending on where they live? Well, in Norway, it's the same thing! There are lots of different ways that people speak Norwegian, and each way is called a "dialect".

Some dialects sound really different from each other, almost like they're speaking a different language. For example, if you go to the city of Bergen, people speak in a dialect called "Bergensk". It sounds very sing-songy and they use different words than people in other parts of Norway.

Other dialects are a little bit more subtle. If you go to a small town in the north of Norway, people might speak in a dialect called "Nordlending". This dialect has its own special words and pronunciation that you might not hear in other parts of Norway.

Even though there are lots of different dialects in Norway, most people can understand each other pretty well. Just like how you can still talk to your friend who has a different accent than you! And since Norway is a pretty small country, it's easy for people to travel around and learn about different dialects.
