ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nuclear material

Nuclear material is very tiny things that have a lot of energy inside them. Kind of like how a firecracker has a lot of energy inside it that makes it go "boom!" when you light it.

Some types of material, like uranium or plutonium, have a lot more energy inside them than the kinds of stuff we use in everyday life. When we group a bunch of these tiny particles together, we can make a big reaction happen that releases a lot of energy. This is what happens in a nuclear power plant, for example.

But because nuclear material has so much energy packed inside it, it can be really dangerous if it's not handled carefully. It can cause sickness, damage to the environment, or even explosions. So we need to make sure it's always kept in very safe, secure places, and handled only by people who know how to keep themselves and others safe.
