Numerus (Roman military unit)

Ok kiddo, so have you ever heard of the Romans? They were a group of people who lived a long, long time ago in a place called Rome. And when they went to war, they had these things called numeri.

Now, a numerus was a group of soldiers. They were kind of like a team, but they were really, really big. There could be hundreds or even thousands of soldiers in a numerus!

Each numerus had a leader, called a centurion. This person was in charge of making sure everyone did what they were supposed to do. They would tell the soldiers when to march, when to fight, and even when to eat and sleep.

The soldiers in a numerus would all wear the same kind of armor and carry the same weapons. This made it easier for everyone to work together and for the centurion to tell who was on their team.

So think of it like a big game of tag, but instead of trying to tag other kids, the Roman soldiers were trying to protect their city and win a war. And the numerus was like their team that helped them do it!
