Oath of Allegiance (United Kingdom)

Welcome little one! Do you know what an oath is? It's like a promise that you make to do something. The Oath of Allegiance is a very special promise that people in the United Kingdom make to show that they will be loyal to the Queen and her family.

When someone becomes a British citizen, they have to take the Oath of Allegiance. The oath is also taken by other important people like Members of Parliament or judges. The oath is taken in front of a judge or a special official and is a big event.

The words that people say during the oath are: "I (their name) swear by Almighty God that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her Heirs and Successors according to law."

What does all of that mean? It means that the person is promising to be a good citizen and to obey the laws of the country. They promise to be loyal to the Queen and her family, even if they may not agree with everything that they do.

Taking the Oath of Allegiance is a way of showing respect and gratitude to the country that has welcomed them as a new citizen. It's also a way of saying that they want to be part of the United Kingdom and will do their best to be a good citizen.

Did that help you understand what the Oath of Allegiance is all about? Always remember to be kind and respectful to everyone around you, and you will be a great citizen too!
